The Indian Institute of Astrophysics offers a number of postgraduate specializations, each with its own unique accolades involved. The M.Tech. + Ph.D. programme is generally a course of a 6-year duration, with 2 years set aside for the Masters’ degree (M.Tech.). The post-doctoral programme is for a period of two years, with the possibility of a one year extension. Applications are available online on the official university website. 

Candidates seeking admission to the integrated M.Tech.-Ph.D. course at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics must apply online well in advance to attend the entrance examination held in the month of December, and the interview held thereafter in January.

Eligibility: Candidates must have BE or B.Tech. Degree in Optics and Optoelectronics/ Radio Physics and Electronics/ Electrical/ Instrumentation/ Electronics and Communications/ Computer Science and Engineering OR M.Sc. degree in Physics/ Electronic Science/ Applied Mathematics/ Applied Physics from a UGC recognized university.

Selection Process:

The selection process to the integrated M.Tech.-Ph.D. course at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics includes the following:

• Written test / entrance examination, held in the month of December every year.
• Personal interview, held in the month of January every year. This may include subject matter such as past work and research experience, focus areas of interest, etc.
• Analysis of past academic performance, at all completed or currently pursuing levels.

Tech or B.E. degree in a field deemed related to the given subject from a university recognized by AICTE. OR An M.Sc. degree from a UGC recognized University.	Written entrance examination and Personal Interview. For Ph.D. after M.Tech., cut off will be stated as well.
