Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936. It is one of the premier institutes in India which offers education in the field of Social Science, Public Policy, Human Development, and Economics. The Institute, at its Mumbai campus, offers Postgraduate (MA) and Research (M.Phil-Ph.D.) courses.
TISS begins the admission process for Master’s programs at its Mumbai campus by the end of November each year. The admission process for Research programs begins in the month of January. The application process is online and a candidate can access the application form from the institute’s official website. The academic year usually starts by the end of May and beginning of June.

- Admission to MA, M.Sc, MPH, LL.M, M.Li.Sc & MHA is offered on the basis of score in Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET) followed by Pre-Interview Test (PIT) & Personal Interview (PI).
- M.Phil-Ph.D. & Direct Ph.D. admission is based on the performance in Research Aptitude Test (RAT) followed by evaluation of Academics, Research Proposal & Work Experience.
- Minimum eligibility for M.Phil-Ph.D. is a pass in Master’s degree in the relevant discipline while for Direct Ph.D. entry, Master’s degree along with t least five -year of work experience is mandatory.
- TISS also offers BA in Social Work in off-campus mode. Students have to qualify in TISSBAT to secure admission to this program.
- Application process for BA is completely online. For PG and M.Phil & Ph.D. courses, the application form can be filled online followed by online or offline submission.
